Football: Week 3 Recap

Nate Keller and Omar Holloway each had three touchdowns as Stebbins rolled to a 41-8 victory over West Carrollton on Thursday Night Lights. Holloway had 147 yards on the ground with 21 carries and 3 touchdowns. Keller went 15/21 with 186 in the air with 1 passing touchdown and an interception. Nate Keller also had 2 rushing touchdowns.

Bryce Schondelmyer continues his impressive junior campaign as he threw for 339 yards and 7 touchdowns on Friday night. The Trojans currently sit at 3-0 (2-0, WOAC) and will have a chance to win their conference and make a deep run into the playoffs this season behind their star QB.

This game might have have one of them most insane stat-line’s of the entire season. A total of 17 touchdowns, 44 first downs, and over 1,200 total yards made for a crazy high scoring affair. Monroe’s Elijah Jackson ran for 403 yards and 3 touchdowns as the Hornets improved to 2-1 on the season.

Coldwater makes a statement over a solid Fort Recovery team as the Cavaliers look to have it what it takes to make it to Canton yet again.

Fairmont continues their successful 2021 season and completes their very tough out-of-conference schedule unbeaten after their 24-7 victory over C-J. Junior runningback Drew Baker rushed for 245 yards and 3 touchdowns as coach Miller’s team moves to 3-0 and will prepare for Northmont to open up GWOC play at home next week.

Isaiah Bales walked this one off as the senior kicker hit the game winning kick with just 10 seconds remaining. After falling in Week 1, the Wildcats have won two straight and look to be heading in the right direction.

Tippecanoe picked up a dominant victory over their rivals from the south. It was former Butler and Ohio State football star Taylor Decker’s jersey retirement. The Red Devils got hot early as Josh Dietz got a pick-six. Jacob Kramer blocked a punt and Gavin Garlitz hauled in a pair of impressive touchdown receptions.

Wayne fell to a talented Canton McKinley squad on Friday night. Jordan Ward had a solid night on the ground for the Warriors but Wayne could never get their offense rolling as they suffer their first loss of the season at home.

Two of the top teams in the MAC met on Friday night in a showdown between two teams that have a chance to make very far runs in the playoffs this season. Marion Local quarterback Peyton Otte ran in the go-ahead score with 2:29 to go and then picked off Carson Bey on the following drive to seal the victory for the Flyers.

After a thrilling comeback victory last week, Oakwood stunned a really good Milton-Union team at home this week. Fairmont transfer Keon Wright came up huge as he got a big touchdown reception and then the eventual game winning interception to move the Lumberjacks to 2-1.

Miamisburg made a statement on Friday night in front of Ohio State head coach Ryan Day. The game was highlighted by Jackson McGohan’s ridiculous one-handed grab. McGohan, Christian Davis, and Corwyn Hurt all combined for a great offensive night while Miamisburg’s defense was solid all night as well. This 33-14 win for ‘Burg will move them to 3-0 and will setup a great matchup next week when they face Centerville.

Tyler Buescher continues to be one of the top quarterbacks in the area as he threw for 335 yards and 2 touchdowns in West Jefferson’s big 24-7 win over Greenon. West Jeff has a really solid team this year and should contend for an OHC title.

Following a close loss to a really good Badin team a week ago, Bellbrook bounced back nicely with a solid win over Tecumseh. Tecumseh came into the game unbeaten and this loss will hurt but the Arrows will still be a top contender in the CBC this year with all the talent they had come back from last year.

After a down to the wire finish last week against Mason, Centerville traveled to Northeast Ohio to battle the Gahanna Lincoln Lions. Gahanna’s quarterback Maxwell Cummings ran in for a touchdown on the final play of the game as the Elks lose a heartbreaker on the road. They’ll have to bounce back quickly as GWOC play starts on Friday and the Elks will travel to Miamisburg for another tough test.

Piqua defeated Troy in a big rivalry game. After the first quarter, the ran began to pickup immensely and so did the turnovers. Piqua did enough in the first half as they held onto their 21-7 lead and a late score from Jasiah Medley gave the Indians a 28-7 victory. Medley ran for 4 touchdowns and also had a huge blocked punt as Piqua moves to 2-0.

Football Playoff’s Week 1: Top Games and Schedule in D1/D2/D3

Division I

Springboro High School

Postseason: 1st Round

After a last second hail mary loss to Cade Rice and Northmont, the Springboro Panthers rattled off two straight wins against Beavercreek and Centerville. But when they collided with Te’Sean Smoot and the high-powered Springfield offense, things fell apart. The Panthers were then upset last week by Fairmont who knocked them off 10-7 off of a late field goal.

This Springboro offense, led by Navy commit Titan Case, Kahleel Trent, and Moise Armbruster will need to take every opportunity they can get against a Findlay defense that has let up 70 points over four games this season.

Olentangy Liberty High School

Postseason: 1st Round

Miamisburg has been very inconsistent this season. After a win over Beavercreek, the Vikings haven’t won a game since. They’ve had very close losses to Wayne and Fairmont. Then two weeks ago, Northmont made an incredible comeback to snatch ‘Burg’s chances at an upset. Last week they fell 42-0 to Centerville are looking to avenge that loss with a big time upset over a strong Olentangy Liberty team.

They will need to force turnovers and force the Patriots into mistakes. Both Corwyn Hurt and Michael Ethridge are tied for second in the GWOC for interceptions. They will need to be big factors on Friday in order for Miamisburg to pull off the upset.

Perrysburg High School

Postseason: 1st Round

Fairmont got a statement win last week as they knocked off Springboro 10-7 off of a last second field goal by Will Holt. The Firebirds will now have to make the two and half hour bus ride north to take on Perrysburg. The Yellow Jackets are a suburb of Toledo and play smaller schools similar to the likes of McNicholas and Alter.

A bigger school like Fairmont with the speed of Keon Wright and the power of Tank Gant will be a lot to handle. With a solid defense, those two players will be the key to Fairmont coming home victorious on Friday.

Wayne High School

Postseason: 1st Round

The game of the week Friday will be a rematch of a thriller from earlier this year. Can Fancher and the Wayne Warriors will host Chase Harrison and the Centerville Elks for what should be a great game. Wayne is coming off of a controversial loss last week to Northmont where many Wayne players thought they were robbed of a GWOC title. With that motivation, Wayne has a lot to play for Friday. Quarterback Cam Fancher is one of the best dual threat quarterbacks in the GWOC and is a problem for any defense. His running-backs Ray Greene and Jordan Ward have both played well this season and have given Wayne a solid two-dimensional offense.

After a last second touchdown, Centerville’s season felt as if it was derailed. The Elks also fell the following week to Springboro. It appears Centerville is playing their best football at the right time though. The Elks have won two straight including a 42-0 shutout against Miamisburg last week. Quarterback Chase Harrison who currently holds offers from Louisville and Toledo threw for 165 yards and 3 touchdowns in the big win. It will take a strong defensive performance for Centerville to stop the Wayne train and move onto round two.

Division II

Tecumseh High School

Postseason: 1st Round

Xenia finished 1-5 in the regular season and last in the MVL Valley division. Despite that, the Buccaneers will come into Friday’s game looking to takedown the 3-3 Tecumseh Arrows. Xenia quarterback Tremell Wright has proved that he is one of the best running quarterbacks in the MVL this season as he has rushed for almost 300 yards in 6 games a QB.

Tecumseh’s offense is centered around their talented duo of running backs in Wyatt Ferguson and Braden Berner. Tecumseh will need to win the turnover battle and control the line to win this game and advance to the next round to face Winton Woods.

Sidney High School

Postseason: 1st Round

West Carrollton has had one of the most unusual seasons in their team’s history. Only playing 4 regular seasons games due to COVID-19, the Pirates have struggled. With all of the distractions, West Carrollton still has the talent to make something happen. Three-star quarterback Kamaury Cleveland has proven himself as one of the top passers in the Dayton area and running back Tyron Darby is also making a name for himself.

That well rounded West Carrollton offense will have to go up against an even more talented Sidney offense. The Yellow Jackets are led by quarterback Cedric Johnson who currently leads the MVL in passing yards. Defensive back Devin Taborn in also second in the MVL in tackles. The winner of this matchup will face Stebbins next week.

Divison III

Chaminade Julienne High School

Postseason: 1st Round

This matchup will feature a pair of teams that love to throw the ball. Northwest quarterback Jaheim Cherry has over 1,100+ passing yards and leads the SWOC. C-J quarterback Luke Chandler leads the GCL Co-Ed with 700+ passing yards. C-J receiver Kenyon Owens has dominated defenses this year as well as he also leads the GCL Co-Ed in receiving yards. This game has the potential to be a very high scoring one as both teams have let up a lot of points this season.
