Brett Kostoff named as new head coach for Springboro

Dayton, Ohio — The Springboro athletic department announced today that fromer La Salle associate head coach Brett Kostoff will be the new head basketball coach next season. Kostoff built an impressive resume while at La Salle as they finished 23-4 last season.

Springboro finished 13-12 last season and they made it all the way to the District Final at the Cintas Center before losing to Moeller 65-25. They upset both #4 Miamisburg and #9 Stebbins on their way to this postseason run. After the season, head coach Kyle Youker resigned after his third season as the head coach of the Panthers.

Kostoff will have some rebuilding to do next season, senior guard Willieon Yates who averaged 12.7 points per game last season and senior forward Noah Moser who averaged 14.8 points per game last season will both graduate. Springboro will return Sam Feldman (sophomore) and Kahleel Trent (junior) who will be their only returning players with meaningful minutes on varsity last season.

Kalen McKinney commits to Edison State

Dayton, Ohio — As first reported on the Miami Valley Hoop Vault Instagram and Twitter pages, West Carrollton forward Kalen McKinney will continue his athletic career at Edison State College. McKinney led the MVL this past season in points per game and also led the West Carrollton Pirates to a 17-7 record.

Edison State is located in Piqua, Ohio. McKinney will be joined there by some familiar faces. Former Wayne guard Ronald Hampton, former Trotwood-Madison guard Malachi Matthews, former Troy guard Tre Archie and former Piqua forward Trey Richmond will all be joining McKinney there next fall. We will be providing coverage to college athletes from the Dayton area next season and Edison State will be one of our first teams to film next season.
