Beavercreek, OH — Chaminade Julienne traveled south to Beavercreek to battle the Beavers in CJ’s first game of the season. Beavercreek was coming fresh off of an 80-34 win over Xenia the night before at Benner Field House. Beavercreek and CJ were both back and forth for the first couple of minutes but late in the 3rd quarter, the Beavers started to pull away. CJ guard A.J. Solomon kept them in the game with his elite three-point shooting and then senior guard Brandon Gibson finished away the Beavers late with a steal and slam highlight play. Mali Strayhorn got a steal off of Brandon Gibson and then dunked it home to give ‘Creek a 3-point lead with less than a minute to go. After a Gibson layup, CJ was within 1. Brandon Gibson than stole the ball from Adam Duvall and dunked it himself to give CJ the 1 point lead with 10 seconds left. Chris Herbort then missed a prayer from the corner with about 8 seconds remaining that would have put Beavercreek up but instead, he missed and CJ came away with the 63-62 win. Herbort led Beavercreek with 26 points. CJ was able to keep big man Braden Grant out of the game late down the stretch due to foul trouble and Beavercreek guard Yousef Saleh also fouled out of the game early in the fourth.
